Combined hormonal contraceptives (CHCs) contain estrogen and progestogen and there are currently three methods available in the UK, the Combined oral contraceptive pill (COC), the Combined transdermal patch (CTP) and the Combined vaginal ring (CVR).


One of the most commonly used contraceptive methods in the world is the combined oral contraceptive pill (COC).


In Malaysia, the COC is widely available.


CHC can be used up until the age of 50 years, providing there are no risk factors that would restrict the use. After the age of 50 years, women are advised to consider an alternative method. No limit is given as to the number of years a woman can use a combined hormonal method.
